Isla Cristobal is located near the Panamanian mainland and is most
famous as the home of Dolphin Bay, which is a lagoon where many dolphins live year round feeding on local marine life. Dolphin Bay is surrounded by land, making the lagoon calm and safe, and is home to one of the largest dolphin populations in South America.
Isla Cristobal is also well known for the Ngobe Indians who still lead their traditional lifestyle. The Ngobe build their homes from palm tree leaves and a special wood called Jira. To make their livelihood, the med run small fishing operations and the women often make crafts for sale. These people are unique and a testament to the melting-pot culture of the Bocas del Toro archipelago.
