Isla Bastimentos is a nature preserve with an expansive and prosperous jungle teaming with life of every kind from the top of the rain forest canopy to the forest floor. Troops of howler, white faced and spider monkeys inhabit all of the larger islands of the group. Three and four toed sloths are very common sights as well as numerous different kinds of reptiles, birds, amphibians and sea turtles.Bocus Bound, Bastimentos, wildlife One of the most unique and interesting amphibians also calls these islands home, the Poison Dart Frog. These frogs are very small and come in a rainbow of different colors from green, to blue, to yellow. These frogs get their name from the poison that they excrete on their skin and its ancient use by native Indians to tip their spears and darts. Two distinct color variants of the strawberry poison-dart frog are believed to only live on Isla Bastimentos.
