The Beaches

beach The beaches in Bocas del Toro are some of the best beaches in Central America. From your doorstep at Bocas Bound you can walk through rainforest trails right onto these beaches.
  • Red Frog Beach: Voted One of the Worlds Best Secret Beaches by The Travel Channel. This beach is named for the red frogs that make the beach famous. It is a 5 minute walk on the "jungle trail" to access this beach from Bocas Bound.
  • Playa Tortuga:  This is a beautiful and secluded beach with huge trees rising out of the sand and is especially picturesque with Wild Cane Key located right before you. This beach is to the east of Red Frog Beach.
  • North Beach: Also known as Polo Beach, this is one of the most beautiful places on Isla Bastimentos with a long sandy beach lined with palm trees and ringed by a coral reef which keeps the water calm. This is a great place for snorkeling.
  • Cayman Beach and Coves: Located on Isla Bastimentos, this beach features small coral islands, secluded coves, and private picnic spots. This beach is an excellent place to find seclusion and do some exploring. Best to access by kayak when surf is low.
  • Bocas del Drago: Located on the opposite side of Isla Colon from Bocas Town, it can be reached by a 1 hour $2 bus ride. The beach is small, but the ocean is calm and quiet, providing a perfect spot to view starfish.
  • Bluff Beach: This beautiful beach will be completely yours, as it is rather difficult to get to from Bocas Town. It can be reached on a rough dirt road about 30 minutes from Bocas Town.
  • Cayos Zapatillas:  These beaches are located on 2 gorgeous islands just offshore from Isla Bastimentos inside the National Marine Park. These islands feature long strands of white sand and some of the best snorkeling in the area.
  • Paunch Beach: Located near Bocas Town, Paunch Beach is a good place for surfing and is framed by jungle.
  • Wizard Beach: This beach is another famous surfing spot and is located on the Western end of Isla Bastimentos. It also features beautiful sand, jungle and rock formations.
  • Playa Larga:  This pristine 3 mile beach is located on Isla Bastimentos within the National Park. This is a a popular turtle nesting site.  There is a good surf spot here. One can hike 2hrs from Bocas Bound to reach here (great for advanced hikers).
