When planning a Bocas del Toro snorkeling trip to the Archipelago there are a couple different places in Bocas del Toro one can go. With the reefs and dive sites scattered throughout the islands, the most popular method of transportation around Bocas del Toro is via boat. Local boat drivers and tour operators know these Bocas islands like the back of their hands and will take you to the various locations. Some of the most popular Bocas del Toro snorkel spots are Crawl Cay, Hospital Point, Zapatilla. Most tours are anywhere between $20 - $30, depending on how many Bocas spots one wants to hit. This is a great way to experience the Bocas archipelago as whole because you are able to bounce from one spot to another. Another Bocas del Toro Snorkel option is to take a more hands on approach and choose a destination w/ multiple reefs on the same island. Isla Bastimentos is one of the Bocas islands that has multiple beaches and therefore different Bocas del Toro snorkeling locations. Snorkeling on Bastimentos is unique in the sense that travelers are able to hike to the various spots and combine the hiking and snorkeling into one adventure. There are two main Bocas del Toro snorkel spots on Bastimentos; Turtle Beach and North Beach. Each reef is a little different and will provide a different experience for participants. Turtle Beach is deeper and the best spots are along the edge of a reef shelf. Fish are more prevalent here and snorkelers won’t go home without at least seeing a school of Chub, various Parrot Fish, or even the invasive Lion Fish. About 30 minutes past Turtle Beach, one comes to North Beach. The reef at Polo has some great coral formations and deep canyons that cut through the coral to the depths of the sea.
