A visit to Nivida Cave on Isla Bastimentos:
A peaceful 15min boat ride through channels, deep bays, mangroves, and a short walk through a cacao farm leads to the entrance of the cave. Upon entering the cave the sound of hundreds of bats on the ceiling above floods your ears, but don't get caught standing below them for too long! The cave is slippery and the floor is covered in jagged rocks so keep your eyes on your feet, but be wary of plunging stalactites which can come out of nowhere.
As you venture deeper into the cave interior you will be wading through a shallow river so be prepared with a swimsuit and shoes that can get wet and will support your feet. The water can be chilly and at times very deep, so be ready to swim. The cave is full of natural rock formations, deep cave dwelling creatures, and dark mysterious tunnels. Keep your wits about you as you enjoy this exciting yet rugged tour meant for the truly adventurous.
