Lionfish Tournament

On Saturday June 5th the first annual lionfish tournament took place in Bocas del Toro.  This particular species of fish has recently made its home in the waters of Bocas del Toro.  An invasive species with no natural predators, the lionfish population is multiplying and needs to maintained.  The contest was open to the public and and featured prizes for such categories as Largest Fish, Most Fish, and various Team Awards.  Contestants were able to go anywhere within the Archipelago and had to report back to the Fire Station by 2:30 to submit their catch.   Overall the event was a success and the evening concluded with a party in town.   Another great example of the unique activities that are always taking place in Bocas del Toro
